News from 2/08/2004: · Bad news to report… A missing hiker was found dead at Bagby!
· This highlights the need for everyone to be prepared for the conditions that might exist at the hot springs and other mountainous areas. See 1/24 news!
· Could this have been avoided? Possibly! What is needed?
· We need volunteers that want to help at the springs and parking lot during the busy weekends day & night! If there is enough interest we could possibly work in cooperation with Law Enforcement to truly make Bagby better & safer!
News from 1/24/2004: · It has been difficult, if not impossible, to drive all the way to the parking lot since the snow storm on Jan. 6 · Road 63 has several rock slides, some rather large. · Road 70 has very deep snow and trees across the road. · Due to the recent melting of lower elevation snow, it may be possible to make it close enough in a 4x4 to hike in if you have proper equipment. · If an attempt to hike in is made please keep in mind a few things: Þ Your clothes will probably get wet and they will frozen when you get out of the hot springs, so bring an extra set. Þ It still gets dark early and if something happens don’t get caught in the dark, bring a light, just in case! Þ Remember there are no emergency services available at the springs anymore.
12/22/2003: · Snow has been falling (& melting). Bagby is at 2200’. · It has been reported that the outhouses in the parking lot that were burned a few months ago have been repaired. · The new privacy wall has been finished by the FS. Be sure to check them out, the remaining walk way is pretty tight. · Clackamas County Sheriffs Dept. will be unveiling the “Bagby Enforcement Team” soon! A tape of Bagby construction from 1983 has been found! It needs to be converted to .mpeg for internet viewing. Let us know if you know how to convert it!
10/01/2003: · Work on the new cedars decks (by the FS) is almost complete, all that is left is the new privacy wall and stairs to the cold water cistern. · The Cold water system is still “jerry-rigged”, no spicket to the big tub and there is a garden hose to fill up the cold water cistern. · Apart from the usual vandalism, people have been ripping the benches out of both the big round tubs and intentionally breaking flumes.
